The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends annual chimney inspections for any chimney that's in a home - whether it's used a lot, only occasionally, or never. Creosote buildup, structural damage, and blocked flues are leading causes of chimney fires and carbon monoxide issues and most of these hazards are completely preventable with regular maintenance.
In addition to annual maintenance, be sure to schedule inspections during the following circumstances:

We address common questions regarding chimney inspection services.
Yes. Even though gas fireplaces burn cleaner than wood-burning units, they still require annual inspections to operate safely and efficiently. Over time, components such as the burner, ignition system, and gas valves can wear, corrode, or shift - creating potential safety hazards that aren't always visible to the untrained eye.
A qualified technician will check for gas leaks, inspect the venting system for blockages or deterioration, examine the burner and ignition components, test the thermocouple and other safety controls, and clean any buildup from the firebox and glass.
Annual service also helps catch small issues before they turn into costly repairs, and keeps your warranty valid with most manufacturers.
Level 1 Inspection
Covers all readily accessible portions of the chimney exterior and interior, including the firebox, damper, and visible flue areas. Recommended annually for chimneys in regular use with no changes to the heating system, fuel type, or home structure.
Level 2 Inspection
Includes everything in a Level 1, plus a thorough video scan of the full length of the flue liner. It is required when buying or selling a home, after a chimney fire, following a severe weather event, or when changes have been made to the appliance or venting system.
Level 3 Inspection
Involves the removal of certain structural components – such as portions of the chimney crown, interior walls, or surrounding masonry – to gain access to areas that cannot otherwise be inspected. This level is only performed when a level 2 inspection reveals evidence of serious hazards.
Most standard level 1 inspections take between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the size, height, and complexity of your chimney system. Homes with multiple fireplaces, longer flue runs, or more intricate venting configurations may take a bit longer.
A level 2 inspection, which includes a full video scan of the flue liner, typically runs 2 to 3 hours. We use professional-grade camera technology throughout the process and take the time to walk you through what we're seeing on-screen, so you have a clear, firsthand understanding of your chimney's condition - not just a written report.
We never rush the process, because thoroughness is what keeps your family safer when lighting fires. After the inspection is complete, we'll go over our findings in detail and answer any questions you may have before leaving your home.
If our inspection uncovers any issues, we'll take the time to explain exactly what we found, where it is located, and why it matters for the safety and performance of your system. You'll receive a written summary of our findings along with a clear, itemized estimate for any recommended repairs - no vague language or pressure tactics.
We understand that unexpected repairs can be stressful, so we'll always outline which issues are urgent safety concerns and which can be monitored over time, helping you make informed decisions.
Because we operate a full in-house masonry team, we're equipped to handle everything from minor mortar repairs and damper replacements to full chimney rebuilds and liner installations, with no need to coordinate additional contractors. That means faster turnaround, consistent quality, and a single point of accountability from inspection through completion.
