Is it Time to Replace Your Chimney Liner?

The lining is one of the most important parts of the chimney. It channels heat and gases up through the chimney top and blocks the resulting heat from causing combustible materials from catching fire. Cracked or damaged lining isn’t good and it’s important that you replace it before you start using your chimney again.

Chimney Doctors, your local chimney sweep and repair experts, shares how to tell if it’s time to replace the chimney liner.

If You’re Replacing Your Heater

If you’re planning to replace your current heating system with a new one, we highly recommend you also change the chimney liner. The old lining doesn’t necessarily have to be old or damaged; if you’re upgrading to a new heater, the old one may be inadequate or obsolete in regards to the new system.

On Your Next Inspection

If it’s been years since your last chimney inspection and you’re doing it soon, you’re probably going to need to do chimney relining as well. The lining itself gets worn down eventually through usage and though it’s durable, it won’t ‘naturally’ last longer than five or ten years.

Don’t worry if your overdue for a chimney lining replacement. Our experienced and qualified team will make sure your old liner is taken out and replaced properly.

The Lining is Made of Clay

Older homes usually have chimney liners made of clay. These tend to crack and fall apart after a while and will cause venting problems through the chimney. Newer homes don’t use these clay lining anymore but if you have it, it’s time to replace it with a more efficient lining.

Your chimney masonry repair experts at Chimney Doctors, we offer stainless steel chimney lining. It’s the preferred material for lining as it’s flexible, is less heat-conductive, and can last longer than other lining materials.
