Gutter Cleaning Mistakes We Avoid Doing

While most homeowners DIY their gutter cleaning, it doesn’t mean that it’s an easy task to do. It’s usually  meant to be cleaned occasionally to prevent pooling water on your roof, which can lead to more damage. However, you’ll likely not be able to clean your own gutters properly, and, then, there’s the matter of safety as well. This is why it’s often better to have them cleaned by professionals like our team at Chimney Doctors.

We’re known for more than just being a trusted chimney sweep company. We do an excellent job in cleaning and maintaining gutters, making sure to avoid common mistakes including:

Not Wearing Protective Gear

While you may prefer cleaning your own gutters, you might be doing it without protective gear, which is not recommended. As we always wear protective gear when we clean gutters, these are just a few important items we always remember as we do our job:

  • Proper eye protection – We wear proper eye protection to protect ourselves from whatever debris that suddenly flies out of a downspout when gutter cleaning. Your gutters can also be home to other small animals, bugs, and pests, so we have to protect our eyes just in case.
  • Heavy-duty gloves – We use this to protect our hands from sharp objects and prevent cuts from the debris. This is essential to use if we want to finish the job smoothly and avoid unwanted accidents.

Using the Wrong Tools

If you plan to DIY your gutter cleaning, you can use spray, vacuum, and broom-like tools to help make the cleaning task easier to do. However, they’re not exactly ideal to use depending on the type and amount of debris you have in your gutter system. If you don’t do a good job, you’ll likely finish the cleaning with your gutters still partially clogged. As such, it’s part of our responsibility as gutter cleaning specialists to always have the right tools when we clean and maintain gutters.

Overreaching

Homeowners who DIY their gutter cleaning tend to overreach on their ladder at times, often not becoming aware of it until an accident happens. This is a mistake that we avoid whenever we work, and we do this by repositioning our ladder continuously even if it may become tedious at times. Risking a fall from the roof is simply not worth the inconvenience because we fully understand the dangers associated with overreaching.

When it comes to reliable gutter cleaning and chimney relining, Chimney Doctors is the name to count on in the area. Call us at (518) 882-5009, or just fill out our convenient contact form. We serve Clifton Park and surrounding areas.
